🐨 Why do Koalas sleep 18 to 22 hours/day:
Koalas sleep a lot. I find it fascinating why. Koalas like to eat eucalyptus leaves like humans like sugar. These leaves are toxic and contain little in the way of nutrition. The Koala's digestive system has to work hard to break down the toxins and extract the limited nutrients. In order to survive they have to maximize their conservation of energy via maintaining a slow metabolic rate, which they accomplish by sleeping most of their lives. And while koala and human
anatomy/physiology is very different, perhaps we should take note and eat fewer toxic plants and more nutrient dense food.

😫 What makes you overeat by 500+ calories:
One reason that Koalas don't skimp on sleep is because a lack of sleep makes you hungry. A 2020 study showed that sleep restriction reliably increases caloric intake (500+ calories). Of course, the first thing I thought of was sleep apnea. Most people suffering from sleep apnea don't know it (25+ million Americans, comparable to diabetes). They go undiagnosed for 5 to 10 years.
That's a decade of constant sleep restriction. One thinks they get "8 hours" of sleep; however, that 8 hours is so fragmented and disrupted (lack of deep sleep and REM sleep) that it is truly sleep deprivation. Obesity leads to sleep apnea. Sleep apnea leads to obesity. It's a negative health spiral that most people are headed down.

🤪 Why I'm ok with being "insane":
Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.
I never liked that definition of insanity. I think it's why "success" can seem so elusive. It often requires doing the same thing over and over again without any (noticeable) results. If you workout once, or twice, or every day for a whole month, it'd be easy to look in the mirror and say, "nothing's happened." You'd be quite logical to stop. It takes time. It hurts. And there's nothing to show for it. You'd be "insane" to keep going. But "success" often requires pushing
through to the other side of insanity.
- This was just a random thought this week that I thought was worth sharing :) because if you feel a bit insane sometimes, I right there with you!

💲 What is good money:
One of the reasons I got turned on to bitcoin in 2013 is because I had read a book about the history of money. Humans have used everything from barter to sea shells in order to exchange goods and services. And I saw a chart like this that really hammered home how bitcoin really is the best form of money ever created.

🏠 What does America's most expensive home look like:
There may never be another house this big built in LA (or for at least a long time). The city just passed ordinances preventing it. But not before " The One" was built in Bel Air. Asking price: a mere $340M
- 100,000+ sq. ft.
- 21 bedrooms, 42 bathrooms, 30-car garage, five swimming pools
- Bowling alley, 30-seat movie theater, full-service hair and beauty salon
In the midst of putting in the 5th pool, the builders must have gotten confused by all the water forgetting to close the moat that only surrounds 3 sides, leaving it vulnerable to an invasion.
