🏁 What strategies I use -
- I'm starting a very simple "Carnivore Cut" for the next 6 - 8 weeks. One of the strategies I use during the "carnivore cut" is to keep protein quite high. There are numerous reasons for this and I put up some slides explaining why I "error on the high side" with protein. I have a couple other strategies I combine with this like progressively increasing cardio and "fat
cycling," but overall, it's pretty simple and straightforward (more details on these 2 strategies in this pdf guide and this video series).

🎶 What note I hit -
- I took my 25th vocal lesson with my coach, Alex, this week. Before I found Alex I took lessons with a number of other vocal coaches. But I've stuck with Alex for a number of reasons. One - he is blunt and doesn't try and spare my feelings. I love that. I want to know when I sound bad. Many coaches try and be gentle to not hurt the student's self-esteem. They would tell me "that sounds great" when I know it sounds terrible. This was super unmotivating to
me. Like saying "welp, this is as good as you're going to get." The other reason I like Alex is that he pushes me. And I like to be pushed just as much as I like to hear the oft-harsh truth. He got me "singing" a G5 this week (best to turn your speakers down :)

♥ What words I'm taking to heart -
- It was about 4 years ago, some time in 2016, that I sent Gabe Lozano a cold email. He was like a local star to me, one of the most successful startup CEOs in St. Louis. I was working on an education startup and was looking for some advice. He invited me to his office and proceeded to give me some tough love. I didn't listen (the company ultimately failed) but I appreciated this immensely. Looking back, I had no idea what was going on in his life. And I hadn't heard from him until this week,
when an article (eulogy) arrived in my inbox. I'm going to listen to his words of wisdom a bit more closely this time.

🥅 What it takes to achieve your goals -
- According to the behavioral scientist, Lee Anne Fennell, you should "lump and slice" your goals. When short-term tasks (i.e. daily to-do lists) seem monotonous and trivial, lump them together by zooming out and remembering the larger goal to add meaning to your daily activity. When your long-term goal feels impossible, slice it up by zooming in on the smaller tasks to make it more manageable. Zoom out for purpose. Zoom in for progress.

🔄 What's turning over -
- It's estimated that 1/2 of the Fortune 500 companies will be replaced in the next 10 years. And in 50 years almost all of today's Fortune 500 companies will no longer exist (as currently configured). I was thinking about these estimates when I was reading the Harvard Business Review "Top 20 Business Transformations of the Last Decade." And it
makes sense. The biggest takeaway I got from the HBR: "in an era of relentless change, a company survives and thrives based not on its size or performance at any given time but on its ability to reposition itself to create a new future, and to leverage a purpose-driven mission to that end."

🎤 What I've been asked to comment on -
- Many people have asked me what are my thoughts on the coronavirus. Unfortunately, like climate discussions, it has become so politicized that it's hard to have a reasonable, rational discussion without emotions flaring. And frankly, I don't know enough about it to have a strong opinion. What I do know is that the smartest people I know don't agree, so instead I'll leave you with a unique perspective :)
