🤝 What we're losing trust in -
- Contradicting decades of dietary advice, a study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, among the largest evaluations of red meat consumption ever conducted, has "eroded public trust in [nutritional] scientific research." About time. The researchers used a system called
GRADE to analyze the evidence which prioritizes randomized controlled trials over the classically biased, confounded epidemiology that much of nutritional science is based on.
- Conclusion: eating less meat confers no health benefits
- While much of the plant-based crowd is up in arms over this, complaining about the GRADE evaluation system, which is an internationally recognized method for rigorous analysis, to me this study represents a step in the right direction where weak "science," biases, and conflicts of interest
get called out.

⏳ What is a disorder of our time -
- Autoimmunity is a disorder of our time. It's still largely a mystery to immunologist why the body turns on itself and attacks its own cells and tissues. There are potential environmental factors and genetic susceptibilities, but I think many cases start in the gut.

🏁 What ended / started -
- This past week was the end of Q3 and the start of Q4. I posted an update pic. But I don't only track health/fitness goals. I've been monitoring numerous metrics and answering questions based on these goals at the end of the quarter:
- What went well?
- What 1-3 things drove the majority of the results?
- What went badly / what mistakes were made?
- Why didn't I achieve what I set out to? How do I correct this?
- What are the least valuable things I'm doing?
- What am I resisting / avoiding that I need to do?
- I've also been doing a smaller version of this on a weekly basis. The idea is similar to flying an airplane across the country. You have a starting point. You have a final (goal) destination. As you are flying you "course correct" (i.e. weekly and than quarterly) to make sure you land where you set out to.

⚾ What also ended -
- It wasn't only the end of Q3, but it was also the end of the MLB regular season (and yes, the Cardinals are in the playoffs!) and thus the end of my fantasy baseball league. Pete Alonzo was my last draft pick when the season started. He was a "flier" pick, meaning I (nor anyone else) expected much from him. Well he went on to set the rookie home run record. He hit 53 homers and propelled me to a fantasy baseball championship. Moral of the story: don't let others expectations of you limit your belief in yourself. In fact, I don't think we should spend that much time worrying what other people think at all.

👀 What I'm looking for -
- I finished my cow this week 4 months after getting it with a friend. I think supporting local farmers is one of the best things you can do for your health and the world. So I'm on the hunt for another and here's where I'm looking. It's a list of local farmers that raise cows on
what they are designed to eat. The difference this can make can be appreciated by a quick look at pastured vs conventional eggs.
