The mental trick helping people fall asleep faster.
Cognitive Shuffling: Step-by-Step
Guide
1 - Get comfortable
Lie down, close your eyes, and relax your body.
2 - Pick a random word
Choose a neutral word with 5-12 letters. Example: “blanket.”
3 - Start with the first letter
For B, think of random, unrelated words
that start with B: banana, bridge, bottle, bear, button.
4 - Picture each word briefly
Imagine each item for 2–5 seconds, then move on.
5 - Move to the next letter
For L, think: ladder, lemon, lake, lion, lamp.
6 - Keep it random
Do
not create a story or connect the images. Randomness is the point.
7 - Repeat until sleepy
Continue through the letters. If you lose track, pick a new word and restart.
The goal is to gently occupy the brain with meaningless imagery so it stops problem-solving and drifts toward sleep.
P.S.
Make sure you're nasal breathing while you do it.
