👴 How to live a long time:
I don't think following a "Blue Zone" diet is the key to a long life.
And while "anti-aging" is a hot trend
and fantastic marketing angle, I don't think we'll find the fountain of youth any time soon.
Rather, I think more longevity discussion should be focused on disease prevention and strength preservation...
A good starting place: the one food that had an unexpected correlation with longevity (hint: red meat).
I don't find the longevity—red meat connection
surprising.
InCHIANTI Study
The InCHIANTI Study followed over 1,000 older adults for 20 years.
The researchers found that all-cause and cardiovascular mortality was inversely associated with animal protein
intake.
In other words those that ate the least protein had the highest mortality, and those eating more protein had lower mortality.
But plant protein had no association with lowered mortality. (r)
Red Meat and...
Beyond eating more red meat, I'd also limit
sugar, grains, and high PUFA / seed oils.
Some other things to add:
- Positive, healthy, close relationships
- Movement and getting outside
- Quality sleep and stress reduction
“I think the most important thing to consider as a macro-principle of longevity is that the longer you can preserve muscle mass, the better.”
