Ray Peat was very smart.
I admired his independent thinking. He had controversial ideas. Some that I agree with (i.e. PUFAs). Some that don't.
Like sugar...
Peat argued in favor of a high-carb, high-sugar diet. A diet that dentists like Dr. Lin and I know is bad for your oral health.
Peat had to discover this the hard way.
If you look up images of Ray, you'll see he smiled with his mouth closed.
People
who have suffered from poor oral health, consciously or unconsciously, often don't smile with their teeth. Peat had bad teeth.
And it's not just Peat.
In Peat's online forum there are many questions like:
I've been experiencing some tooth decay and gum sensitivity on a
'peaty' diet.
I get messages like the Tweet above all the time.
Thus, to me, to argue for a diet that is bad for your teeth because it is somehow good for your overall health is a precarious argument to make...
It's an argument diametrically opposed to our evolutionary
biology and millions of years of selective pressures that forged strong teeth.
If your diet rots your teeth, the hardest substance in your body, it's a pretty big red flag that the diet isn't optimal.
