To form a new habit, tie it to a routine you already do.
- Decide on the habit you want to form (make it simple)
- Decide which habit you currently do that you can tie it into
I'm using this formula to learn to do the splits.
Before lunch, I already had a habit of doing a walk around the neighborhood. Now I'm tying my stretch routine to my walk.
The walk triggers the new habit — stretching. It also flows naturally as a walk warms me up for the stretches.
