🧇 What kids eat for breakfast:

This is a recent conversation with an 11-year-old patient:

Me: "What did you have for breakfast?"
Kid: "Waffles."

 

Me: "Did you know that's not a great breakfast for your teeth?"
Kid: "No! What did you eat?"

 

Me: "Steak and eggs."
Kid: "Did you know that's not a great breakfast for your heart?"

It's rough out there. 

The fear of meat and eggs is deeply ingrained. 

Though sometimes the fear of the syringe and drill, and how to avoid it in the future (i.e. diet...), can help steer one in the right direction.

🥛 Does your dairy have this in it:

Carrageenan is processed seaweed used as a thickening agent in dairy and a stabilizer in medications and toothpastes. 

Dr. Joanne Tobacman has spend decades investigating carrageenan and its effects on the human body and has published several peer-reviewed studies that linked low dose carrageenan exposure to gut damage, inflammation, impaired glucose intolerance and insulin function, and associations with malignancies. (r, r)

Her warnings have been disregarded. But not by me. I avoid it.

Better options for thickeners/emulsifiers: 

• Eggs
• Collagen
• Gelatin

✅ When is the last time you did this:

When is the last time you tried something that might not work?

To me, this is the work worth doing. It's scary, often contrarian, because the outcome is unknow.

If you're working on something that might not work, it means you are treading in uncharted territory, creating something new, exploring new possibilities. 

🙏Don't wish your life away:

I set 3-5 year goals. Sometimes I catch myself wishing I could just fast-forward to their accomplishment.

But that would be like wiping out a thick block of rows...

Any time I start wishing my life away, I come back to this visual of a 90-year life displayed in weeks.

It quickly reminds me that life is short, time is the most precious resource, and as my Dad always says, "Don't wish your life away."

👍👎 How I choose what to work on (invest in):

This is an investor matrix.

For the best returns you have to go against consensus AND be right.

Though I think this matrix is useful beyond investment allocation. It can help guide you where to put your time for the biggest impact.

• Consensus Wrong: Danger! (see Mark Twain quote)
• Consensus Right: Continue on.
• Contrarian Wrong: Learn your lesson and correct course.
• Contrarian Right: Speak up! Double-down. These are the projects and ideas worth working on.

I think the most important ideas to work on (or against) is Consensus Wrong and Contrarian Right, which are often 2-sides of the same coin. For example, "Red meat is bad for you" (Consensus Wrong) and "Red meat is a health food" (Contrarian Right).
