🦴 Weak teeth = Weak bones:
Teeth can tell you a lot about what's going on in the body.
If you have weak teeth, there is a good chance you have weak bones.
Vegans don't only have an increased risk of caries, but also a 30% higher rate of fractures, a consequence of having lower bone mineral density. (r, r)
This is due to having high bone turnover thanks to low calcium, low protein, and low vitamin D — all critical for bone health.
Regarding calcium, you'd have to eat about 8 cups of cooked spinach to get the same amount of calcium as a glass of milk.
And although cow's milk has lactose, the milk sugar has the least
cariogenic potential of all di- and mono- saccharides. Further, the milk provides calcium, phosphate, and proteins that all help prevent demineralization of the teeth. (r)
Alternatives to animal milk contain little calcium, little protein, and lots of added sugar, a recipe for decay...and weak bones.
