Good morning! Here's your Saturday 7 roundup!
👀 Do women prefer the "Dad Bod": According to a Yale professor, women prefer a "Dad Bod."
I took a poll on
Instagram, and 93% of people disagreed with the Yale professor, preferring fit bods to dad bods. Perhaps both our "studies" had some selection bias. It's hard to disagree with Dr. Anthony Chaffee who chimed in: My a**. This is pushing ill
health, and poor diet and lifestyle in order to keep people fat, sick, docile, and consuming. Trying to weaken the next few generations so that they can easily roll over them.
My
thoughts: Dad Jokes > Dad Bod
🥩 How to prevent the most common disease in the world (and Dad Bods): You can kill 2 birds with one stone.
The most common disease in the world is diet-induced.
This diet prevents both
tooth decay and Dad Bods. After posting this, a dentist asked, "What is the mechanism by which seed oils cause caries?"
I was glad to see this question as it's the least obvious culprit. When seed oils replace animal fats in the diet it leads to inadequate fat-soluble vitamin intake, like D and K2, which play a key role fortifying tooth defenses. Additionally, seed oils are implicit in obesity, which can lead to "fatty tongue," an obstructed airway, and mouth
breathing.
🎙️ What's at the Beginning of Infinity:
Since the kids in rural
Missouri haven't gotten my message on caries prevention, I had a 2+ hour drive to a dental assignment where I got the chance to listen to a fantastic podcast on "The Beginning of Infinity," which is based on the book by David Deutsch.
Things are not always what
they seem. Consider a pot of water on a burner. If you put a thermometer in it, you'll see that the heat creates a linear rise in temperature. If you were to stop this experiment before 212 degrees
Fahrenheit, you might think this linear relationship continues: more heat = hotter water. However, at 212 degrees it flatlines. It's like the Turkey that is fed every day, all year. Until Thanksgiving. Big takeaway: Look deeper; zoom out. Embrace criticism and continually search for better explanations, new hypothesis, fresh ideas, and innovative solutions. Here's Part 2 and if you want to go even deeper, like I want to, consider reading the book and after each chapter follow it up by watching Brett Hall break it down.
When it comes to internet
search, Google is in a league of its own. However, with the release of GPTchat, perhaps Google has a legitimate competitor. Who wouldn't rather have someone (something?) just tell you the answer rather than having to search for it. The biggest investor behind GPTchat is Microsoft ($10B), who own a search engine that no one uses called Bing. But that might change as they integrate an A.I. assistant into the search bar... This could be your new web co-pilot.

🦷 How much does the tooth fairy pay:
I extracted a tooth on a
7-year-old this week and asked him, "How much is the tooth fairy going to bring?"
"20 bucks!"
After telling him I get half, I looked up the going rate.
$23 in Missouri! This is crazy to me, as I got $1 and was thrilled about it. But if I had put that $1 in the S&P 500 in the early 1990s, it would be worth $20+ today. Though I'm not sure this strategy will work as well over the next 30 years. Inflation appears to have peaked (for the time being), so the Fed slowed their
rate hikes with a 0.25 bump. With the labor market (still) strong, the equity / risk markets are happy (for now). Though I'm not so sure we've seen the last of high inflation. There are many signs of a slowing economy, which could lead to rate cuts later this year or next. This could have inflation rearing its ugly head and the tooth fairy digging ever deeper into her pockets.
✈️ Why flights get delayed:
I visited my parents in
Florida for my Mom's birthday. On my way home, the flight was running late. As agitation started to build, I serendipitously saw this video clip which brought a whole new respect for air traffic control.
As always, it's an absolute pleasure and honor getting to spend some time with you, hope you have a great weekend! Kevin P.S. I told a joke over zoom. No one laughed. They said I wasn't remotely funny.
Hanging out with the alligators in the everglades!
