⚖️ What is my body fat %:
I ran a poll on Instagram for people to guess my body fat percentage.
Poll Results: >50% of people guessed 9%, and there was a close split between votes for 6% and 12%.
Actual Results: I had my body fat tested via DEXA and InBody which yielded almost identical results: 12% (I had a big breakfast!)
Before getting scanned, I guessed 9-10% (men tend to assume we are leaner than we are 😂)
Getting a body fat analysis is a terrific way to track progress over time but is by no means necessary.
My favorite thing about a body fat scan like DEXA and InBody is that it gets people thinking about "fat loss" instead of "weight loss," a subtle but profound distinction.
On a fat loss journey, not losing muscle mass is as important as losing fat mass. So, I like how these tests get people looking beyond the number on a scale which can be misleading.
For me, this 12% (+/- 2%) is a sustainable, healthy place to sit. Though I'm planning to push outside this in the coming months, more on this next week!

🥗 What is NOT a health food:
Salad is the universal "health" food. Except it's not healthy.
It's devoid of minerals (and vitamins).
In an attempt to make it edible, people douse it in vegetable oil.
While correlation isn't causation, I believe the huge increase in polyunsaturated fats (concentrated in vegetable oils) over the last century has the most explanatory evidence for the obesity epidemic (epidemiological, interventional, and mechanistic).
Sadly, people trying to lose weight will opt for salads > steak.
They replace natural animal fats with industrialized processed plant fats.
The result: over 93% of adults in the US aren't healthy. ( r)

📘 How to start a country:
It must be impossible to start a new country, right?
But 20% of nations have a population of less than 1M people and over half have less than 10M.
While many companies have millions, even billions of users.
This new book explores the futuristic/fantasy idea on how to build the successor to the nation state, The Network State.
I started with the summary, which intrigued me enough for the book to make its way onto my "to-read" list ($10 on Amazon, but can read for free online).
A network state is a highly aligned online community with a capacity for collective action to gain diplomatic recognition from pre-existing states.

❓ When did that happen:
Do you ever ask yourself, "When did that happen?"
Here is a history of everything, start to finish. ( best viewed on desktop).
The 1st human inventions: stone tools, axes, spears, bows, and fire.
I wonder what these were used for 🤔

🌍 How to visualize the world's economy:
For the last 150 years the US has had the world's largest economy. But China's GDP is projected to surpass the US's by the end of the decade.
Can you guess which country has the smallest GDP, $66M?
For perspective, there are more than 500 companies in the US alone that have annual revenues far more than that (which brings us back to that Network State book...)
HINT: that thin arrow at the bottom of the picture is pointing to it...

🍅 Who I used to trust:
I trusted Rotten Tomato ratings!
From 2000-2015 the average review score was in the 50s. Makes sense, the average should be around the middle.
But since then, the average movie rating has jumped to nearly 70%!
Did movies get better?
Or could it be that Fandango bought Rotten Tomatoes in 2016 and better ratings sold more movie tickets 🤔
I'll leave that for you to decide.

P.S.
I wondered what my grandparents did before the internet.
So, I asked my mom and her 11 other siblings. None of them knew.
