🧈 Which to choose: Plant vs Animal Fat...
In 1961 the American Heart Association came out and said: reduce your saturated fat intake (i.e. animal fat) and use vegetable oils to lower your LDL cholesterol.
So, researchers did this clinical trial in 1965 that showed ( r):
- Group 1 (the control): 75% alive and free from subsequent CVD event
- Group 2 (olive oil): 57% "..."
- Group 3 (corn oil): 53% "..." (but they did have lower LDL!)
If we fast-forward to today, saturated fat has been exonerated. ( r)
However, also today, USDA recommends limiting saturated fat and eating more vegetable oils...
While seed oils tend to be the worst, I generally recommend people to just avoid all vegetable oils, including the fruit ones like avocado and olive.
Why?
Olive oil is also notorious for being adulterated (though standards have improved this in some parts of the world), and studies show that cooking with it produces significant toxic byproducts (HNE) like the seed oils do. (r)
I'd just stick to animal fats.

📷 1, 2, 3, or 4:
KetoCon invited me to be on their fitness panel in July. They asked if I could provide a fitness pic. Wanting to put my best foot forward, I started going through all my fitness pics where I had a professional photographer (although some of my mirror selfies are 👌:)
I narrowed it down to 4 and put it up to a vote...
And the winner is...(not what I would have picked, so glad I asked!)
P.S.
Some people were asking if this is what I currently look like (well, just wait to the end of this 6-week challenge I'm in! :) But, for reference, here is a picture from last summer (when I finished a drawing depicting me in picture #3 above). It provides a nice comparison of a normal day semi-recently versus prepping for a physique competition, with a tan, great lighting, a pump,
and a professional photographer.

📚 How to manage time:
We have a finite amount of time. We don't know how much. So, at the core of time management, is deciding how to spend your life.
- How to work efficiently (GTD)
- How to work inefficiently (Deep Work)
- When to not work (Tau of Time)
- What to not work on (Drop the Ball)
- Why work (Finding Meaning)
Alone, each of these 5 books seem incomplete. But together, you can get a feel for how to manage your most precious resource.

🏠 What $87/month used to get you:
In 1960 the median income was $466/month. So, an $87/month house payment took less than 20% of one person's monthly income ( and you got a nice house!).
The average home price today is over $400k, which is ~$2,200/month. So, to equate with 1960, one person's average monthly income needs to be over $12k (~$150k/year).
Seems like wages haven't kept up with inflation (which clocked in at 8.3% last week). Though I don't really see an obvious solution.
If the Fed acts aggressively against inflation by raising rates businesses suffer which likely means wages don't rise and unemployment does. If they do nothing, inflation continues to worsen.
It seems like the Fed wants to try and balance high-ish inflation and a slight recession at the same time. Not fun.
