💊 How to supplement:

This brought up questions around supplementation. In general, I don't recommend supplementing with fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) haphazardly as they work synergistically and interdependently.
For example, during development vitamin D signals to K2 to prevent under-development of the maxilla (premature calcification of nasal septal cartilage). The interplay between D and K affects everything from teeth strength to artery health.
But over-supplementing one can potentially lead to a deficiency in the other. (r) And interdependent dosing gets complicated fast.
From research I've done, it seems that for every 1,000 IU of vitamin D3, you need 100-200 micrograms of K2. But this is not definitive. And getting this wrong can lead to deficiencies and/or, since they are fat-soluble, hypervitaminosis.
And since we are talking about the research, I'm not convinced vitamin D supplementation helps much. This recent study (Feb, 2022) is a huge RCT (>20k) that concluded: "vitamin D supplementation is unlikely to have influence on all-cause mortality."
If deficient in vitamin D (<30 ng/dL), I find it more helpful to ask "why" and get to a root cause, like metabolic health, diet (fructose impairs conversion of inactive to active vitamin D) or inadequate sun-exposure.
I'd rather let nature and real food sort this out, especially since nature's vitamin D will also provide you with nitrous oxide production, antioxidant upregulation, and even endorphins that play important roles in mental health.

🥩 Where I'm going (again):
I'm headed back to Austin this summer for KetoCon where I'll be on the Fitness Panel (Saturday, July 9th) and the Carnivore Panel (Sunday, July 10th). It's the largest keto event in the US and the 1st time they added a "Carnivore" section, so I'm excited to participate!
It's a 3-day weekend of health education and community, with 60+ speakers and the largest gathering of people passionate about health, wellness, and not eating a lot of carbs :)

Until agriculture / industry creep in, doing nothing is top of the list. I find it ironic how advancements and technologies that are supposed to free our time make it that we become too busy to do nothing.
I'm especially bad at doing nothing.

Alex Epstein has an extremely unpopular opinion: fossil fuels make the world better. While "better" can be quite subjective, and this topic is wildly controversial, his writing highlights the nuance necessary in the discussions around fossil fuels.
To me, his stance appears to be that we should move away from massive fossil fuel usage, but before we do we need to protect "the *freedom* necessary for truly cost-effective alternatives to emerge...i.e. we need to decriminalize reliable, non-carbon nuclear energy."
