đ± What's a huge missed-steak:

The NYC mayor announced all public school kids are going to eat vegan on Friday's. Add this to Meatless Mondays and we continue to push kids further and further towards malnutrition.
It's not just about iron deficiency though. It's protein. It's the extra 450+ calories it takes to get 30g of protein from beans vs steak (which still isn't a good comparison due to bean's poor amino acid profile and bioavailability). Its vitamins like B12 and B6, minerals like zinc and magnesium, fatty acids like DHA and EPA. It's choline, carnitine, carnosine, cholesterol, taurine, and
creatine mostly found in animal products. It's the problems associated with trying to replace protein with soy, fat with seed oils.

There aren't many controlled studies that look at the effects of eating meat versus limiting meat in children. But in rural Kenya, where children don't have much access to meat, a study was done with kids from 12 primary schools. Kids from 4 of the primary schools got meat, 4 schools got milk, and 4 schools were control groups (eating their standard meat-poor diet).

After 2 years the meat group had, by far, the best outcomes in:
- Physical growth and ability
- Intellectual acuity and the highest test scores
- Behavior demonstrating superior leadership
While the control group faired the worst, the milk group still tested significantly worse than the meat group. You simply can't replace meat with milk or vegan versions of something trying to mimic it.

- Things you use for a significant fraction of your life (bed: 1/3rd, office-chair: 1/4th) are worth investing in
- âWhere is the good knife?â If youâre looking for your good X, you have bad Xs. Throw those out.Â
- Reward yourself after completing challenges, even badly.Â
- Human mood and well-being are heavily influenced by simple things: Exercise, good sleep, light, being in nature. Itâs cheap to experiment with these.
- How you spend every day is how you spend your life.Â

I've been thinking a lot about "should's" versus "must's." It's the divide between wanting to do something and actually doing it.Â

There is a religious zeal around bitcoin. It's more than digital gold, more than the best investment of the last decade, more than a technological breakthrough. To the zealots (like myself!) it goes deeper. This is a long, deep, philosophical read on God, Bitcoin and the Evolution of Consciousness. It's a fascinating read, but you'll need a big cup of
coffee.

It is in this light that truthful information, and the truthful perception it fosters, is seen as being of primary importance, as it best determines the validity of the actions we take. It permits us to optimize our âexchangeâ with reality, as we seek to offer some aspect of our limited selves, for something else that makes us âless limitedâ (vis a vis our ideal).
